This app was created by Elizabeth Powell, who is 17 and does not yet have her own developer account. Elizabeth has lived in China for nine years, and the U.S for eight. The inspiration for the app comes from her American friends who are curious what their Chinese names would be if they could choose one themselves.
In China, parents name their children with great creativity and imagination. While ones surname is usually passed down from the father, ones given name can be anything. Some parents name their kids based on things they like, e.g. jasmine, cloud, ocean, or wind; some choose names that incorporate their dreams and best wishes for their children, e.g. success, beauty, or happiness. With this App, your Chinese surname will be a Chinese character that resembles your last name, and your first name will be selected from words that you choose to represent your own essence (apple, sweet, sky, or whatever you can come up with that makes you happy). Have fun creating your own Chinese name!
